Root canal treatment

Root canal treatment is a procedure performed when pulp tissue inside the root canal becomes infected. Pulp becomes infected due to deep decay, fracture, chips or trauma to the tooth. The symptoms range from sensitivity to temperatures to a visible swelling. The dentist removes the infected pulp, carefully cleans and shapes the inside of the root canal, then fills and seals the space. This procedure will be followed by placing crowns over the root canal treated tooth. This simple procedure can save the tooth and is less expensive than extraction and replacement by bridge or a dental implant.
