Complete dentures and partial dentures
Dentures are prosthetic devices fabricated to replace missing teeth: Complete dentures for all missing teeth and partial dentures for fewer missing teeth. The difference is partial dentures have a metal framework to derive support from the remaining teeth and complete dentures do not. Complete dentures can be immediate or conventional dentures. Immediate dentures are delivered immediately after extraction and tissues are allowed to heal under the denture. Whereas conventional dentures are fabricated after the tissues heal from extraction. Complete dentures require continuous follow up appointments as they might require adjustments when tissues and jaw bone shrink with age. Complete dentures can be made fixed and stable by means of dental implants.
Partial dentures are constructed for few missing teeth and have metal framework to obtain support from remaining teeth. Other type of partial denture fabricated for special instances does not have metal framework and is more esthetic.
